兩天后，我發現：第一組和葉片沒有什么變化，因為在植物的葉片上，生有許多小孔，叫氣孔。各種植物的葉片上、下表皮的氣孔有多有少，一般葉片上的氣孔下表皮比上表皮多。植物就是通過這些氣孔吸收空氣中的二氧化碳和氧氣。用凡士林涂在葉片上后，氣孔被封閉了，使空氣不能從氣孔通過。植物用于制造養料的能源(陽光)大都照在葉面上，而凡士林的涂層不能阻擋陽光。另外，水從根部通過莖部運輸上來，也不受凡士林的影響，所以葉面涂有凡士林的葉片不會受任何影響。
第二組的葉片出現枯萎現象。因為葉片背面涂有凡士林，植物的氣孔又大多生長在葉片背面，陽光一般照不到葉片背面，空氣既不能從氣孔進入，又不能從氣孔排出去，所以葉片會很快枯萎。
通過做這個實驗，我知道了植物主要是用葉片背面呼吸，不能在葉片背面涂一些妨礙植物呼吸的東西。我從中知道了應怎樣保護植物。
