我不想去追憶瑪格麗特的墮落，我以為這是對一個復蘇靈魂的玷污。似乎可以這樣講，愛情的力量喚醒了一顆麻木沉醉的心，從而使她的靈魂高尚起來，當她一心想和那種使她臉紅的過去的生活告別而于心愛的人廝守時，當她害怕會被強迫去重操舊業時，生活卻與她開了個大玩笑，她是又被重新推向了深淵，因為他們的關系是為當時的社會制度、阿爾芒的家庭所不能允許的。我詛咒這樣的社會制度，我詛咒這樣的家庭，我是為瑪格麗特而不公，生活于她是太不公平。
雖然我們的瑪格麗特是出于一種善意的目的，一個崇高的理想為著自己的心愛的人的家庭、心愛的人的幸福而離開，忍受著心上人的誤解而采取的報復而無悔，我想她亦是無愧的了，然而她卻是在摧殘自己，是對生活于她不公的絕望，是對社會于她不平的絕望，神圣而偉大中，悲慘亦凄涼!
