一清早起來，就聽見爺爺的房間里傳出一陣陣奇怪的發音，說是英語卻又不像英語，說是普通話卻也不像，于是我懷著好奇心，爬下床，跑到爺爺的房間里看個究竟。
一看，原來是爺爺在讀英語呢！爺爺一看見我，馬上就說：“寶貝孫女啊！來聽聽爺爺讀的英語準不準。”爺爺拿起英語書，一本正經地念：“‘五門’、‘不拿拿’、‘鬧醒’……”我愣了，半天反應不過來，“五門”、“不拿拿”和“鬧醒”是什么東西啊？我拿過爺爺手中的書，一看，差點摔倒，原來是“woman”、“banana”、“nothing”啊！我哈哈大笑，對爺爺說：“爺爺，這幾個單詞不是這樣讀的。”我把正確的讀給爺爺聽，爺爺一聽，哈哈大笑：“原來是這樣讀啊！我那個年代沒接觸過英語，現在看電視里有些節目在教英語，所以就很想學，特別是今年是奧運年，所以我就更得學英語了。寶貝孫女啊！你就教教爺爺吧！”我說：“爺爺，奧運會都過去了，你現在學英語也沒用。”雖然這么說，但是在爺爺的“苦苦糾纏”下，我只好答應了。
可是，教爺爺學英語可不是一件美差。爺爺的`“ABCD”寫得龍飛鳳舞，你要不仔細看，還不知道他在寫什么呢！爺爺讀的英語，英語中夾著一點我們的家鄉話，聽起來怪怪的。這一天下來，我教爺爺的英語單詞。爺爺該不會的還是不會，甚至把單詞都忘了。
雖然爺爺怎么學也學不會，但是爺爺的“活到老，學到老”的精神和堅持到底的毅力，還是值得我學習的。

媽媽的英語是靠練出來的，我聽爺爺講，媽媽小時候天一亮就起來讀書了，捧著英語書大聲朗讀，放學回來后，媽媽更是勤奮，不斷做英語練習，高聲朗讀課文，并認認真真做好筆記。翻開她的書一看，上面全部清清楚楚的記滿了，讓人賞心悅目。

過年祭祖，要到除夕日下午。過年，家里已成年有收入的小輩，要給長輩送“壓歲錢”，長輩也要對未成年的小輩給“壓歲錢”，戶戶如此，體現了尊老惜幼的美德。
在正月里，潮汕地區都游神祈福的活動，就是把廟里面的神座抬到大街上游行，人們要放鞭炮、燒香、接福。這就是潮州春節的習俗。
