創作背景
《The Monster》最初由Frequency、Alias、Bebe Rexha和喬恩·貝利恩等人創作，取樣自Bebe Rexha歌曲《Monster Under My Bed》。Bebe Rexha表示，歌曲的創作靈感來源于她本人試圖走出低迷時期的經歷。
當歌曲創作完成后，制作人Frequency將歌曲提供給了Shady唱片公司的'執行副總裁瑞格斯·莫拉萊斯。在聽完這首歌曲后，瑞格斯·莫拉萊斯便要求得到歌曲的一些片段，并將其送至埃米納姆的手上。之后埃米納姆接受了這首歌曲，并在歌曲中加入他個人的說唱部分，同時對伴奏進行了調整。
歌曲是埃米納姆與蕾哈娜之間繼《Love the Way You Lie》、《Love The Way You Lie (Part II)》和《Numb》之后的第四次合作。埃米納姆認為蕾哈娜是完成這首歌曲演繹的合適人選，因為他認為大眾將他們都視為“瘋狂的人”，并將這些想法都告訴了蕾哈娜。
